Kite Project Reflection
1. Evaluate: What are the good / strong parts of your project? What is done well & why?
-I like the colors I used on my project. They are very eye catching, and go well together. Another thing done well is the way I assembled the dowels. I'm pretty sure that because I assembled them carefully, it will add to it's ability to fly.
2. Evaluate: What do you think you could have done better on this project? What is not great and why?
- I think I could have made better patterns. I don't like the ones I used on my kite, and they seem to clash with each other. I could have also spent more time on my strokes.
3: Describe the theme of your kite: What is the overall unity of your kite? Why did you choose to do it that way?
-I guess the theme is fire. I centered the kite around the purple flames around the bottom. The unity is my colors, cause the bring everything together. I choose to do it this way because in the sky, colors are the main thing your eye picks out among kites.
4. Describe the shape / form of your kite: What shape did you use for your kite? Why did you select that shape?
-I used a triangle shape. I choose it because it seemed simple and allowed me more time to design and color my kite.
5. Describe the color used in your project: What are the major colors or color families represented in your kite? Why did you chose to do it that way?
- I used mostly cold colors. I choose to do it this way so it would stick out among the warm colors in nature.
6. Analyze the use of materials: What do you conclude about kite building? What are the positives and negatives of using tape, Sharpie, Tyvek, dowels, and why?
-The positives to those materials are that it's a low budget, quick way of making a homemade kite. The negatives are it doesn't look good quality. I conclude that depending on the time allowed, you can make a good looking kite with simple, affordable tools.
7. Metacognate: What did you learn from this project that you could apply to other projects in the future? What lessons could be applied to life in general? Why?
-I learned the ability to use simple things to create projects. I could use that as an idea for projects in my future, and also if I need something that I can't afford/find. I could make it myself.
8. Describe the design process of your project (the steps): Why did you do it the way you did? Was it planned? What is by chance? What changed as you went along with the project? What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? Elaborate...
-To begin my design process, I started with my prelimarys. Once I choose one, I made a rough copy so I could properly cut out my tyvek and also get some idea of the colors and patterns I planned on using. Next, I cut my Tyvek and colored it on both sides. Once it was colored completely, I cut out tails to help in aid my kite to fly. I colored those too. Once those were done and taped on, I taped on my dowels to provide structure for my kite. Yes, it was planned. It was one of my prelimarys. I really didn't change the project much. I stuck with my prelimary to make it quicker and easier. A challenge I faced was definitley boredom. When you spend many days in a row coloring the same project, things start to get sloppy. I had to push through though to keep the quality up and the overall kite looking good.
9. Is this a worthwhile project? What should Mr. Purdy do to this project in the future? Why?
- I definitley think Mr. Purdy should skip this project in the future. I really didn't have even the slightest amount of fun with it and it seemed useless to put that much effort into such a simple project.
